S2 Ep 8 – Anne Wanlund

Building Canopie: The Path to Preventing Mental Health Struggles in New Moms

On this episode of "Who The Health Started That?" we meet Anne Wanlund, a globetrotter without a hometown, thanks to her parent's involvement in the foreign service. Inspired by her experiences in East Africa, Anne founded Canopie—a maternal mental health platform focusing on prevention and early intervention. She recognized the existence of effective interventions and common risk factors that can predict mental health struggles among expecting and new mothers. However, the current healthcare system falls short in detection, prevention, and support for these moms. Canopie was designed to step in early, providing comprehensive care and ensuring that mothers are mentally and emotionally equipped to care for themselves and their babies.

Anne's motivation to create Canopie stems from her personal and professional experiences. While working in Tanzania and becoming pregnant, she realized that despite her background in maternal health, her own mental health caught her off guard. This experience resonated deeply with Anne and fueled her determination to address the lack of action surrounding maternal mental health—an issue she believes is a pressing public health concern.

Join us as we uncover the remarkable journey of Anne Wanlund and the creation of Canopie—a platform built to revolutionize maternal mental health support.
